Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Production Arts (Media Make-Up)

If you want to work as a makeup artist in the exciting and dynamic world of fashion, film, theatre and television this is the course for you. You will be taught a range of practical skills including creative make-up, wig making, period hairstyling, prosthetics and body painting, you will work on live performances and collaborate with other creative professionals. On successful completion of this course you can progress onto higher education or enter the industry in a junior role.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 4/5 or above, a Level 2 qualification in Art & Design or related subject. At interview you will need to bring records of formal study i.e.: A report, media based project work and evidence of a written piece of work. Student who has not previously achieved a grade 4/5 in GCSE English or Maths will need to study towards this qualification as part of their programme.

What do I need to bring?

All students will need to come to college with the equipment and materials needed from their kit.

Assessment/Exam information

The course is assessed by a variety of methods including: projects, assignments, presentations and course work; all of which are internally moderated, as well as being verified by an external examiner to maintain national quality and standards.

All work is graded using a scale of Pass, Merit and Distinction. The course is unit based and presents continuous assessment opportunities, as opposed to a final examination; therefore, your progress can be accurately tracked and assessed throughout the entire programme, offering you the opportunity to improve your grades.

Other information

During the course students develop a range of transferable skills, which play an essential role in developing personal effectiveness for adult and working life and in the application of specific vocational skills.

You could progress onto our HND Performance Production Arts Media Make-Up, followed by our BA Advanced Make-Up, Hair and Prosthetics. Alternatively HE courses offered by Universities.

Qualification description

Students who complete this course will be awarded a BTEC 90-Credit Diploma in Production Arts which is a fully recognised national qualification.

Any extra costs

All students will be charged a Equipment fees of £500. For this, students will be issued with the equipment and materials required to undertake the course. In addition there is a trips & exhibition fee of £170. Other costs may be incurred in the production of project work.
