Foundation Studies

The Foundation Learning team provide a wide range of learning opportunities for learners of all ages over a range of levels.


These programmes are tailored to meet the needs of the students whatever their age or ability, working with each student to chart their individual learning journey from start to finish.


Pathway to Progress

For students looking to progress within a chosen subject. 

Each student group will:

  • Have a dedicated lecturer and mentor support.
  • Have the chance to study Sport & Coaching, Multi-Trade Construction, Hospitality & Catering, Beauty Therapy, Health & Social Care & Childcare, and Art & Design.
  • Be able to develop employability skills and gain work experience within the College through a range of projects, either internally or externally, into work or further study.
  • Be able to progress onto further study or employment.


Pathway to Work - Work Development Programme

For students with more complex needs aged 18 and above, who wish to progress into work and to gain valuable workplace skills.

This Pathway focuses on developing, maintaining, and supporting work placements in line with students’ needs and abilities, leading to experience of employment.

Students will receive:

  • Dedicated support.
  • A range of employability skills that will be developed and enhanced.
  • Progression options that will be reviewed and explored monthly.


Pathway to Independence

For students primarily with complex needs, aged 16 and above.

This Pathway will help students to develop independent living and travel skills, and aims to increase confidence and life chances.

Its core aim is about distance travelled and progression for each individual, within an engaging and stimulating programme of activities, such as Gardening, Cooking, Personal Development and Floristry that focus on the needs and ability of the student.
