BLOG POST: Written by Swindon College Digital Technology Students

We’re Lewis and Marceli, and we’re currently studying at Swindon College for a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Digital Technology. On this computing course we study and practice topics such as:
  • Setting up and configuring technology systems, including hardware and software.
  • Exploring emerging technologies like Augmented Reality, Artificial Intelligence and Cloud Computing.
  • Learning about computer security, threats such as viruses and hacking, and how to protect and recover from them.

There are many interesting things we’ve learned on this course, and we’ve had many amazing opportunities such as careers development, trips, and visits from potential employers. Recently we learned about apprenticeships where we could become a Cyber Communications Technician for the RAF, protecting cyberspace and information security!

To apply for this Level 2 course you should have Maths and English GCSE at Grade 3, but if not you can still apply, and will have to work on retaking them within your course timetable until you achieving a Grade 4.

On this Level 2 Digital Technology programme we were able to choose between completing the course as a FastTrack (in 1 year), or taking time and spreading it over two years – this is a good option if you haven’t had much previous experience studying computing or IT but are interested in getting started.

Once we complete our Level 2 Diploma we’re planning on moving up to do a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Computing.  After we finish Level 3 we’ll be able to apply for jobs, Higher Education or for an apprenticeship.
To apply, come in and speak to Student Services or complete an application form online.

This Thursday our classmates are doing a Facebook and Instagram story ‘takeover’.

We will be posting a look inside life at college, what we do on our course, and what we get from it. Please join us for our takeover this Thursday!
