Swindon College To Host Guild of Bricklaying Competition

Swindon College are delighted to be hosting the heat for the Western section of the Guild of Bricklayers competition on Friday 10th May 2019 for the 2nd consecutive year!  The Guild of Bricklayers, founded in 1932, is a national organisation and was created with the intention to promote, maintain and celebrate the highest standards of craftsmanship in brickwork.

Swindon College are 1 of 7 colleges in the competition and last year Swindon College student Viktor Sukharyev won the senior category in the competition.

Steve Southern, (MMGB), Swindon College Lecturer said,
“We look forward to an enjoyable and successful day. I would like to take this opportunity to thank those members of the construction trades team who are helping with this competition; and for their hard work and support. Good luck to all of the competitors.”

The Guild of Bricklaying Competition is split into two categories; junior and senior. Each competitor in the Junior Competition have a duration of 5 hours to complete their entry. The junior category is for new entrants with minimal site experience who are working towards an S/NVQ / Diploma Level 2 preferably.

The senior category is for trainees who should be working towards an S/NVQ / Diploma Level 3. Competitors in the category will be allocated 6 hours to complete their test pieces.

To all the competitors, I would like to say that you have officially become part of the Guild’s history and it is something you can be very proud of, you are the reason for this event taking place, and I say do your best, enjoy the experience, and it will live with you forever.”
