Engineering

An exciting dynamic world of immense possibilities! From manufacturing and production technologies, electronic engineering, robotics, mechanical maintenance to welding. It’s all about solving problems using specialist technical and practical skills. 

 

Electrical Installation

As a fully trained electrician, you’ll have the opportunity to work in range of areas, from bringing power to people’s homes, to big engineering projects. You may also work with environmental and renewable technologies, like wind turbines, ‘smart’ heating systems, and solar power, ensuring you are always on top of the latest techniques.

As an electrician, you will be entering a growth area: a major employer with large and small companies, lots of opportunities open to you, and the chance of a job for life.

Engineering & Electrical Installation Courses

City & Guilds Diploma in Electrical Installation


This course is designed for people who would like to gain employment within the electrical industry. It combines practical training with some basic electrical theory. The practical works is carried out in our own training workshop to the necessary industry standards and matches some of the requirements of 'off the job' training for an electrical apprenticeship. This course covers the following units: Health and Safety in building services engineering, Principles of Electrical Science, Electrical installations technology, Installation of wiring systems and enclosures, understanding how to communicate with others within building services engineering. The course will consist of 50% practical and 50% theory. You will also have timetabled sessions of English, Maths, Work Experience and Enrichment as part of your programme.

City & Guilds Diploma in Electrical Installation


The successful completion of this course provides the stepping-stone for a full-time career as an electrician. You'll learn the basics of electrical theory and, under the guidance of our highly trained tutors, carry out hands-on practical work in our training workshop. Electrical apprenticeship job requirements and work standards are mirrored in training. You'll learn the principles of electrotechnical installations in buildings and structures and will be expected to complete a variety of assignments. The course also deals with the installation of wire systems and enclosures, health and safety in building services engineering, the technology of electrical installation and the principles of electrical science. You will also have timetabled sessions in English, Maths, Work Experience and Enrichment as part of your programme.

EAL Diploma Engineering Technologies


If you’re ambition is to work in the engineering industry, then this course, which focuses on practical engineering skills and knowledge, is the course for you. It’s aimed at those wanting to achieve an intermediate level engineering qualification before progressing to become a fully qualified professional engineer. The course syllabus includes electrical and electronic engineering, maintenance engineering, welding engineering, mechanical engineering and pipework systems engineering. You will also have timetabled sessions in English and Maths, Work experience and enrichment as part of your programme.

Whether you’re an adult, or are a school-leaver, this diploma course will help you follow your dream to become a full-time engineer. A variety of job opportunities are open to you and these include maintenance engineer, mechanical engineer, railway engineer, welder and/or fabricator, and electrical and/or electronic engineer. You’ll be required to complete two mandatory units – one, the understanding of engineering and environmental health and safety, and then, a choice from the following: mechanical engineering technology, maintenance engineering technology, welding technology, or electrical and electronics technology. You will also have timetabled sessions in English and Maths, Work experience and enrichment as part of your programme.
