Quality Assurance Review (QAA)

The Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for Higher Education reviewed Swindon College in February 2014.

This was to determine whether our provision meets the expectations of the higher education sector in:

  • Setting and/or maintenance of academic standards
  • The provision of learning opportunities
  • The provision of information
  • The enhancement of the quality of students' learning opportunities.

The review was carried out by a team of peer reviewers - staff and a student from other university Higher Education providers. The review team used the UK Quality Code for Higher Education as the standards by which to measure our provision.

We received a report from QAA which was published in May 2014, click here to read it.

We are extremely proud and pleased that our Higher Education provision met UK expectations in all four of the judgement areas mentioned above and that we had good practice highlighted in the following-:

  • Direct engagement with external examiners
  • Strong support for student progression
  • The screening programme for dyslexia during induction
  • The pro-active mutual relationships we have with our awarding bodies
  • The strategic commitment to the employability of our students and our comprehensive links with local employers.

(Full details area vailable via the link to the QAA report above).

The review team made two recommendations to us and gave us two affirmations of actions we had identified.

In order to improve and develop our Higher Education provision, and in line with the QAA requirement, we have produced an Action Plan to address the recommendations, demonstrate our plans for continued improvement and to show how we will build further on the areas of good practice the review team identified.  The Action Plan can be viewed here.

I would definitely recommend the college to other people because there is more freedom, you still have to do assignments by a deadline but you can work towards them at your own pace. The on-site gym is well equipped and facilities are good.
