Nevaeh Marie Gardiner

Level 3 | NVQ in Plumbing and Heating

Nevaeh Marie Gardiner, 18, knew from her teenage years that she wanted to do an Apprenticeship in Plumbing.
Nevaeh’s passion for the trade began when she started going along to jobs with her stepdad when she was 15. Unexpectedly she really enjoyed doing this and hasn’t looked back since.

Now she is currently studying the Level 3 NVQ in Plumbing and Heating at Swindon College as an Apprentice at EJC Plumbing and Heating.
She admits that an Apprenticeship is more complex than people think. There is also a lot of theory work that needs to be completed to ensure that you are equipped with the right information for the skill, you have to be willing to learn while doing the job.

Nevaeh plans to complete her NVQ, once she has done this she will spend another year continuing to gain industry experience before she sets up her own Plumbing and Heating business.
“Doing a job that not a lot of women do is a driving force for me. People are always surprised when they open their door and see that it’s me who has come to fix their leak.

“I love this job and I have found the experience of doing an Apprenticeship very rewarding. Once you start learning and being able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills that you have learned it’s a great feeling.

“I have had lots of encouraging feedback and positive comments from customers which reassures you that you are doing a great job – it’s a brilliant feeling!”
