Leanne Durham

Level 3 | Tool Maker Apprentice (BMW)

Leanne Durham, 17, is hoping to fulfill her potential in the Engineering industry by following in her Grandad’s footsteps of working for automotive giant, BMW.

Leanne’s spark for the profession was ignited following a school event that she attended which focused on women in Engineering.
She is currently doing an Apprenticeship at Swindon College where she is training to be a Tool Maker at BMW.

If you would have asked Leanne previously about what she had planned for her career it wouldn’t have been an Apprenticeship in this subject because she wasn’t too sure what Engineering consisted of or if she could even apply to do it.

“I feel privileged to be doing my Apprenticeship with such a prestigious company. If you would have told me a year ago that I would be doing this I wouldn’t have believed you. I never thought I’d be in a role like this, it has exceeded my expectations.

“This opportunity has allowed me to meet new people and make friends through a process that we can all go through together.

“You should always aim high, it’s better to have huge ambition and try something new because at the end of the process you will have gained a great skill.”
