Virtual Art Exhibition

Hundreds of people visited Swindon College’s Virtual Art Exhibition to see the creative display produced by students from the Art department.

In normal circumstances students would invite friends and family to their end of year gallery viewing where they can also demonstrate their work and talents to industry professionals in the hope of gaining work and maximising exposure.

Since launching the exhibition there has been over 600 online viewers to see the work from our Further Education 2nd Year, Level 3 Extended Diploma Art & Design, Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design, Foundation in Art & Design, BA Graphic Design, BA Illustration, BA Advanced Make-up Hair & Prosthetics, HND Performing Arts Media Make-up, and HND Photography courses.

Jo Gennard, the Curriculum Manager for the Art, Design, Media & Production Arts department highlighted that 2020 has not been a normal year but the college has done everything they possibly can to try and bring a sense of normality.
“For many graduating Art students it hasn’t been the end that they had planned for. COVID-19 has meant that the opportunity to have an actual exhibition was not possible, so we decided to create something that could ensure that this was not the end result.”
The College’s Art department came up with the idea to host this virtually, designing their first ever Virtual End of Year Exhibition where all graduating students, for both Further and Higher Education could exhibit the very best of their work.
Jo added: “It has been so successful that the college is considering using Virtual Exhibitions in addition to actual exhibitions for the future.
“The success of the exhibition is testament to the standard of the students work and the dedication of all of the staff who have worked tirelessly throughout lockdown to ensure that all of their students could continue with their studies and graduate as planned.”
The exhibition went live on June 25th, just one week after it would have been on show at the College.
