Frequently Asked Questions

1. What type of Animal Care courses are on offer?
There’s a choice of two Diploma courses available at Swindon College, each designed to prepare you for a career in animal welfare. Check out our website or prospectus for course details.

2. What different course levels are available to study?
There’s a Level 1 & Level 2 Diploma.

3. What grades and qualifications do I need to enrol?
The Level 2 course requires four GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including English and Maths and equivalent Science is preferable..

4. How long does the course take to complete?
Level one is a one year study programme. Level two full time study and will take two years to complete.

5. What kind of work will I be doing?
Both courses are practical ‘hands on’ course that will see you engaged in feeding and maintenance of healthy animals, looking after animal accommodation, grooming and animal welfare. Units can include Animal biology and behaviour, as well as work experience or an Investigative Research Project.

6. What about work experience?
There’s plenty of opportunities for students to undertake work experience as part of their course. Level two will need to secure 150 hours voluntary work experience

7. What kind of careers will be open to me once qualified?
You could find yourself working as a Pet Shop Manager, Veterinary Assistant, or even running your own business as a dog groomer.
