1. What type of Forensic Science courses do you offer?
For those wishing to have a career in policing, crime scene investigation, forensic sciences including criminology and psychology we offer a Diploma in Forensic and Criminal Investigation.

2. What different course levels are available to study?
The extended Diploma available to study at Swindon College is for level 3.

3. What grades and qualifications do I need to enrol?
The National Extended Diploma in Forensic and Criminal Investigation requires four GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English, Maths and Science. This course includes units that are science based as well as those that include the practical applications of criminal investigation and crime scene examination.

4. How long do the courses take to complete?
This is a full time study course and will take two years to complete. Contact time is normally around 2 1/2 days a week which allows time for your own research and completion of assignments.

5. What kind of work will be I doing?
During the two year course you will undertake science-based units related to forensic examinations in the college’s laboratory, classroom-based subjects such as criminology, forensic psychology, forensic and criminal investigation as well more practical units such as road traffic collision investigations and crime scene examinations at the crime house, University of Gloucestershire.

6. What about work placements?
Where possible students will experience working with the police, fire service and in sterile laboratories.

7. What kind of careers will be open to me once qualified?
A qualification in Forensic Science could lead you into careers such as a Lab Technician, Forensic Analyst, Forensic Investigator or Forensic Scientist. This course is particularly beneficial as a route into studying a Policing degree, the new pathway into this career.
