1. What type of Uniformed Public Services courses do you offer?
There’s a choice of two Diploma courses in Public Services available at Swindon College, each designed to prepare you for a career in the Uniformed Services

What different course levels are available to study?
We run a Level 2 and a Level 3 Diploma.

2. What grades and qualifications do I need to enrol?
The Level 2 course requires four GCSEs at grade 3 and above, including English and Maths, or an equivalent. The Level 3 course requires four GCSEs at grade 4 and above, including English and Maths, or an equivalent. Or a Level 2 Public Services qualification with the determination to succeed and develop with English and Maths alongside.

3. How long does the course take to complete?
The Level 2 course takes one year to complete, whilst the Level 3 course will take two years.

4. What kind of work will I be doing?
You will explore topics such as Leadership, Discipline, Command Skills, Expeditions, Crime and its effects on society. You can expect residential training as well as work based learning experiences.

5. Do I need to be physically fit to undertake this subject?
As the public services are physically demanding you will cover a range of fitness units to prepare you for life in the services.

6. What about work experience?
We enjoy close links with local business, so there’s plenty of opportunity for students to undertake work placements.

7. What kind of careers will be open to me once qualified?
Once qualified, the next step could be working in the Police, Armed Services, Ambulance or Fire Service.
